The Complete Method of Sangopang Om Chanting
In this method of chanting Om, with the help of meditative energy (dhyan vidyut), we gather the mind, its instincts, and the divine powers of the sense organs into one single point – Ekadesh. At that same point, with a silent inner attitude, we chant Om with our mind and soul anchored in the Divine. When this happens, Sangopang chanting is complete.
Wherever Dharna is performed, this same method of chanting is applied.
The Rhythm of Chanting
Each utterance of Om takes approximately one second. At this rhythm, you can chant Om 60 times in one minute. This count becomes the measure of your Kumbhak and Dharna.
After the maturity of the third Dharna – Nasikagra Dharna of the first Pranayama – when the Pranavayu begins to come out of the nostrils, the prana tends to rush back inside due to panic.
The sadhana is to gradually train the prana to stay outside the nostrils for a longer duration. With practice, increase this duration until you can chant Om 500 times in a single outer retention – for as long as you can hold.
This is the true measure of mastery over this Dharna.
